City PositionsWhat's a Harpy? Why do I have to listen to the Prince anyway? Why shouldn't I piss off the Scourge? The answers to all these questions should be answered below with the descriptions of the rights and responsibilities of the City Positions. The Prince appoints most of the City Positions, so getting on his/her good side is always to your advantage! The Prince - A vampire of either gender who has established a claim of rulership over a city, and is able to support that claim. The Prince of a city is automatically understood to be Exalted, Well-Known, and Famous as far as other kindred are concerned. S/He can never lose these traits permanently as long as s/he remains Prince. The Seneschal - Other Kindred view the Seneschal as Cherished and Esteemed as long as s/he retains that title. The Seneschal acts in the Prince's stead when the Prince is out of the city. S/He is therefore entitled to all the powers of the Prince, although the Prince may reverse or revoke them at any time. Harpy - The Harpy is considered Influential because of his/her position. The Harpy may remove one Permanent Status trait from a Kindred who has backed out of a boon, or is part of a major scandal. The Harpy must produce some sort of evidence at a gathering of Kindred, at which time the Status Trait is removed. The Harpy may restore this at the cost of one temporary Status Trait. The Primogen Counsil (see below) may temporarily lend 1 status each to the Harpy for any purpose. The Harpy is the official record-keeper of the domain, recording all events, boons, and acknowledged or blood hunted members of the domain. Sheriff - As long as this person hold her/his position, s/he is considered Feared amongst all Kindred. The Sheriff is in charge of all investigation in the domain. Refusal to attend a questioning by the Sheriff causes a Kindred to lose a Permanent Status Trait. The Sheriff is immune to the powers of the Keeper of Elysium, but must still uphold the Traditions. Keeper of Elysium - The Keeper is considered Honorable by all members of Kindred society as long as s/he holds the position. The Keeper may permanently remove one Status Trait from any Kindred s/he catches breaking the Masquerade. If the Keeper does not witness the breach, sufficient evidence must be brought forth before a Status Trait can be removed. This removal costs the Keeper nothing. Scourge - The Scourge is considered Feared by all Kindred in the community. The Scourge can harass, detain, or destroy without penalty any Kindred that have been created without permission from the Prince, or who have not been presented formally to the Prince. If the Scourge discovers someone harboring or abetting vampires created without the Prince's permission or who have not been presented formally to the Prince, the Scourge may remove one Permanent Status Trait from that character. This Trait may be returned if the Prince does not see sufficient evidence of the crime. Primogen - All members of the Primogen Counsel are considered Revered by positon. They may grant or remove Permanent Status Traits to or from any member of their own clan at a cost of one Temporary Status Trait for each Trait granted or removed. |
